Sawyer Family Health Center Welcomes New Provider
July 19, 2016
GWINN, MI – Upper Great Lakes Family Health Center (UGL) welcomes Anja Hoffstrom, DDS to their dental services team at the Sawyer Family Health Center. Hoffstrom recently graduated from University of Michigan School of Dentistry with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (DDS). She brings to the dental team experience as an orthodontic assistant, dental assistant and dental hygienist prior to pursuing a career as a dentist.
As a Marquette native, Hoffstrom is thankful to be able to bring her family home to the Upper Peninsula, and to really be able to make a difference here in the UP by providing much needed dental services. “I really enjoy being back in the UP and enjoying the outdoor activities it offers,” said Hoffstrom. “I am looking forward to raising my family in the laid back and friendly atmosphere the UP offers.”
Hoffstrom will join Ashley Brintlinger, DDS at Sawyer Family Health Center. Since adding dental services earlier this year, the clinic has seen more than 500 dental patients. The demand for services continues to grow. Adding Hoffstrom to the team will allow UGL to provide more oral health care to a region which has historically lacked access to care.
Oral health care is an essential part of UGL’s mission to provide exceptional health care services to all people in the Upper Great Lakes region. According to National Network for Health Access (NNOHA), research has clearly shown that oral health must be an integral part of providing “total body health.” Oral disease increases an individual’s risk of heart disease, stroke and adverse birth outcomes. In addition, studies have shown a relationship exists between diabetes and periodontal disease. Oral diseases remain the most common cause of bacterial infection and are typically easy to manage.
Sawyer Family Health Center is located at 301 Explorer Street, Gwinn, MI. To schedule a visit with Anja Hoffstrom, DDS, or another member of UGL’s team, call (906) 346-4924.
