CALUMET, MI – Dr. Eden Leonard has joined the team at Upper Great Lakes Calumet Family Health Center (UGL), bringing her passion for oral health and her commitment to improving access to care.
Originally from the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, Eden earned a degree in psychology with a minor in art from Northern Michigan University. She then pursued her dental career by completing her dental assisting certificate at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After becoming a Registered Dental Assistant in Michigan, a Licensed Dental Assistant in Minnesota, and a Certified Dental Assistant nationally, she continued her education at the University of Michigan’s School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree.
Dr. Leonard has known she wanted to be a dentist since she was 7 years old, when a dentist visited her elementary class. She recalls writing in her notebook, “teeth are inportant!!! teeeeeeth!!!!” Her enthusiasm for oral health has only grown since then. In 2021, she was honored with a National Health Service Corps scholarship, with the goal of returning to the Upper Peninsula to serve the communities she loves.
Now living in the Keweenaw with her husband, Jack, and their two Sphynx kittens, Eden enjoys reading, creating art, listening to music and audiobooks, and spending time in nature with family and friends. She and Jack maintain close ties with their extended families in the Lower Peninsula.
Dr. Leonard chose to join UGL because of its commitment to high-quality care and health equity. She is excited to help launch UGL’s mobile dental clinic, which will bring vital dental services and education to communities with limited access to care. Through her work, she hopes to inspire greater awareness of the importance of oral health.
