Upper Great Lakes Family Health is pleased to welcome Jennifer Huls, NP to our Calumet Family Health Center, expanding access to primary care services for patients of all ages throughout the Copper Country.
Huls earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Michigan University in 2013 and went on to complete her Master of Science in Nursing at Spring Arbor University in 2019. She brings more than a decade of nursing experience to her role, with a background that includes both critical care and primary care. She has cared for patients with complex medical and surgical needs, as well as a diverse patient population in community-based primary care settings.
Through this work, Huls developed a strong appreciation for the importance of health equity, community-based care, and reducing barriers to access. These values continue to inform her patient-centered approach and closely align with UGL’s mission to provide high-quality, compassionate care to all.
“I value a partner-based relationship with my patients and believe in empowering them to meet their wellness goals,” said Huls. “I’m passionate about providing compassionate, accessible care and creating a welcoming environment where patients feel heard and supported.”
At UGL, Huls provides comprehensive primary care for patients of all ages, with clinical interests including women’s health, preventive care, chronic pain management, mental health care, and substance use treatment. She has a particular passion for caring for patients with substance use disorders and mental health conditions, approaching each patient with dignity, understanding, and individualized support.
Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, Huls is excited to finally call the Upper Peninsula home. She married a Calumet High School graduate, and moving to the Copper Country has long been a goal for their family. Huls and her husband have two young boys, three dogs, and a guinea pig. Outside of work, she enjoys quilting, gardening, hiking, and reading. Her family are enthusiastic fans of the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Lions, and the University of Michigan.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the UGL family,” Huls shared. “My goal is to spread a little love and kindness while caring for this incredible community.”
