Chris Alderton, FNP-C: Supporting Patient Health and Independence at UGL’s Gwinn Family Health Center

Upper Great Lakes Family Health is pleased to welcome Chris Alderton, FNP-C, to our Gwinn Family Health Center, expanding access to primary care services for patients and families in Gwinn and surrounding communities.

Chris earned her Registered Nursing and Health Applied Science degrees from Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. She later completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Finlandia University in Hancock, followed by her Master of Science in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner training at the University of North Dakota. Chris is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and also holds several specialized certifications, including Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), certified insulin pump trainer, CPR instructor, and Certified Nursing Assistant instructor. She is currently completing the NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Nutritionist programs to further expand her knowledge of health, wellness, and movement.

Chris was inspired to pursue healthcare through both her love of science and her own personal health journey. Diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at a young age, she developed a deep understanding of what it means to live with a chronic condition and the importance of knowledgeable, compassionate healthcare providers.

“Living with diabetes gave me a firsthand understanding of the daily decisions and challenges patients face,” Chris said. “It also sparked my curiosity about how the human body works and how we can support people in living healthy, full lives.”

At UGL, Chris provides primary care for patients across the lifespan. She has a special interest in supporting individuals with diabetes and caring for older adults, helping patients maintain their mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.

“I want patients and their families to know that I am approachable, attentive, and genuinely invested in their health and well-being,” Chris shared. “I focus on listening, understanding each person’s goals, and working collaboratively to help them maintain independence, mobility, and quality of life.”

Originally from Marquette, Chris is proud to serve the community she calls home. She appreciates the strong sense of community, beautiful natural surroundings, and endless opportunities to stay active outdoors in the Upper Peninsula.

Outside of work, Chris is a dedicated martial artist who trains in both Soo Bahk Do and Muay Thai. She also serves as Administrative Director at Camp UPeninsulin, where she supports and empowers children and families living with diabetes. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, snowshoeing, and exploring the outdoors.
